Closing, but maybe not the end: Chapala's family is in talks with a group that could keep its recipes going

Chapala's Mexican Restaurant on East Tropicana still plans to close when its lease runs out in November, but the Las Vegas Sun reports the Flores family is negotiating with another group in hopes of keeping the restaurant running and mom Maria Flores' recipes on the menu. Nothing is signed, so if the chile verde or the house margaritas (so popular they're kept on tap) are your thing, don't wait on a rescue. The family says it isn't closing over money; the siblings who run it, Jose, David and Edward Flores and Teresa Luevano, are ready to retire after decades in the same Tropicana plaza, where Chapala's has been since 1978. Hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and there's still no exact last day.
